Char Siu Pork Tenderloin!

Difficulty: Beginner

If you are looking for an inexpensive, easy, super tracker-friendly, low calorie protein source, and you don’t mind eating pork, you have got to try cooking with pork tenderloin!

I have often thought of pork tenderloin as a rather boring cut of pork that needs tons of help if it is going to have any flavor, but I have been having so much fun challenging myself to make it delicious! This gorgeous Char Siu marinade has me BEYOND EXCITED!

Of course, my version is a variation on the traditional recipe, which uses a fattier cut of pork, but I honestly didn’t feel like I was missing a thing! …and it was SO EASY!

The next time I put a bowl together, the only thing I think I might change is what’s in it – I need to add more fiber!

  1. In a small bowl, make the marinade by combining the brown sugar, oil, 1/4 cup honey, hoisin sauce, soy sauce, Chinese five spice, and food coloring.

  2. Poke the halves of pork tenderloin all over with a fork, place them in a zip top bag, pour over the marinade, and let rest in the refrigerator overnight.

  3. The next day, place the marinated pork on a rack set in a baking sheet lined with foil, and bake it at 350 degrees for 10 minutes.

  4. While the pork is baking, pour the reserved marinade into a small saucepan, bring it to a boil, and cook the sauce for about 3-5 minutes until the sauce has thickened a bit and is no longer raw.

  5. Remove the pork from the oven, and baste it generously with the cooked sauce, and return it to the oven for 5-10 more minutes, until the internal temperature is at least 145 degrees.

  6. Baste the pork one more time, and place it under the broiler for 30 seconds to a minute to char the outside.

  7. Let the cooked tenderloins rest for 5 minutes, lightly tented with foil, then slice and enjoy!
